Allegiant Air begins nonstop service from Knoxville to Myrtle Beach

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Low-cost airline, Allegiant Air, LLC, has inaugurated low-cost, nonstop service from Knoxville, Tenn. to Myrtle Beach, S.C.

“We are extremely pleased to again expand the Allegiant brand of low-fare, nonstop jet service to East Tennessee,” said Maurice J. Gallagher, Allegiant chairman and chief executive officer. “This is an exciting new addition for our airline and our customers as we launch the only nonstop service between Knoxville and Myrtle Beach.”

The new flights operate two times weekly with service Thursday and Sunday.  Flights depart McGhee Tyson Airport (Knoxville) at 12:35 p.m., arriving in Myrtle Beach International Airport at 1:50 p.m. Flights depart Myrtle Beach at 4:25 p.m. arriving in Knoxville at 5:40 p.m. (all flight times are local).  Allegiant also offers nonstop flights to four other vacation destinations from Knoxville: Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Orlando, Fla. the Southwest Florida Coast (Sarasota-Fort Myers) and the Tampa Bay area.

“With its beautiful beaches and world-class golf courses, Myrtle Beach is an extremely popular destination for our leisure travelers,” said Kirk Huddleston, Chairman of the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority Board of Commissioners. “Allegiant Air’s continued investment in our community is a benefit to East Tennessee travelers and we appreciate the addition of their fifth destination from McGhee Tyson Airport.”

Allegiant will utilize 150-seat, MD-80 series, jet-aircraft on the route.  The airline said its research and input from local community leaders indicate East Tennessee will welcome the new nonstop flights and low fares to Myrtle Beach.
